Sea Mammals and Sonar Symposium: 27-28 October

Concern over the increasing levels of anthropogenic sound in the ocean has existed for several decades. Research undertaken to understand the impacts of this include Behavioural Response Studies (BRS), which focus mainly on the response of marine mammals to anthropogenic sounds.

Researchers in the field and other stakeholders (e.g. navy, regulators, NGO, industry) are invited to this free two-day symposium to be held at the University of St Andrews, which will address the progress in the field of understanding the impact of anthropogenic sound in the ocean. The results of the Sea Mammals and Sonar Safety (3S) project will be presented, as wella as the results from related research projects. There will be ample time for discussion focusing on future research needs and opportunities. Input from scientists, NGOs, industry and regulators is aimed for.

The symposium is free of charge, but registration is required for logistical reasons. For more informatio and to register, please follow the symposium link.
